How to choose the right carpet for high traffic areas

High quality carpets are by default an expensive investment and purchasing a carpet is often compared to looking for a new car. In order to make a wise investment you have to consider all advantages and disadvantages and have some knowledge of the matter.
You must have noticed that your carpet often looks shabby and dirty right at the front door, while the area beneath the furniture looks really nice even after several years. If you are looking for a solution and you are willing to remedy the situation, here are a few tips that can help you preserve the nice condition of the carpet in the high traffic areas:

  • The first thing you have to look out for while at our London flooring shops is the material carpets are made of. If your top priority is to find a durable carpet that can serve you for the years to come, you’d better consider a carpet featuring a high percentage of nylon. This material requires less maintenance and it is easy to clean. As it goes for the polyester, it is stain-resistant but sometimes keeping it clean can be challenging.
  • If you have the chance to talk to flooring experts, all of them would tell you the same – the colour of the carpet matters. White and gray carpets are prone to make the stains and dirt quite obvious, which makes them unsuitable for high traffic areas.
  • Many people make the mistake of installing an olefin polypropylene made carpet in the high traffic areas as it is inexpensive, but unfortunately it attracts a lot of dirt. Yet it is said to be stain resistant.
  • In order to ensure further protection of the carpet in the high traffic areas, you can place a rug or a mat at the front and back doors.

Before buying a carpet, you need to make an informed decision and choose really carefully, otherwise the risk of having your carpet damaged or even replaced in less than a year is pretty high.
