The Hassle-Free Way to Pack and Move

When you are selling your house or leaving your rented property, packing and moving are the two most time-consuming and tedious tasks you should perform. In this article, we will share some tips you may find useful when it's time to say goodbye to your current home. Check out our suggestions and get the things going:
  • One of the smartest things you can do when selling your home is to make a list of the things you want to keep. When you know your valuables and a nice set of furniture that you intend to take to your new home, you will be able to organise the process more easily and also determine the things you want to leave. These items can be separated into other groups – sell, donate and throw away. Start preparing a few weeks prior so you can make some extra money and have fewer things to pack. Another good reason why you should do that is that you will be able to organise your new home without wondering where to place the items you don't really need. The fresh start is near – just act smart and in advance!
  • If you are going to rent a moving truck, you are advised to call at least two weeks in advance. If you know the certain date, call even a month to be sure that everything is scheduled. A common scenario is to find out in the very last minute that no truck is available – a lot of people are moving out right now. Usually, you have to leave your credit card details or leave a large amount of cash deposit. Yet, this is the most convenient way to transport your things. Speaking of booking services, if you are living on rent, call your local end of tenancy cleaners as soon as you know when you will be ready with the moving out.
  • The first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions a removal are boxes – you will need a lot of them! When you start packing your large electronic devices, you are recommended to use their original boxes – this is the safest way to repack and protect them. When it's time to pack such things, don't save on bubble wrap and strapping tape. Ensure that every box is packed properly and has a label on it (of course, this is not valid for obvious things like your flat screen TV). You can also take advantage of wrapping your electronic devices with some old newspapers. However, have in mind that they may leave some ink residue behind. Make sure you do your best so you won't end up with a broken or damaged possession.
  • A very smart strategy is to pack room by room. Once you are done with the room, label every box as “Bedroom” for example and add “Fragile” on the ones that deserve most attention and careful handling. By doing this, you will save the hassle of wondering where does this go when you are moving in.
  • In order not to lose any important documents during the move, we recommend you to have a special box or file depending on their amount. Beside from your papers, you can store your jewelry there. Do not scatter expensive possessions in different boxes as they can easily got lost. Better have them together so you can carry them together with you.
  • Call ahead – don't wait until the last minute to call your phone, cable and electric companies. Call them at least a week in advance. Also, change your billing address if you are shopping online – you may forget this and end up with a parcel on your old address. If you are using the help of a housemaid, call your domestic cleaning company and give them your new address or cancel the appointment.
  • Start by packing the thing you won`t use first – books, clothes out of season, etc. You can do that whenever you have time even a month before your moving out – just set the boxes aside so they are not on your way.
  • If you are having your friends and family to help you, don`t forget to treat them well! Don't make them come while you are still packing – make sure everything is ready to go. You can say thank you by having a small 'moving party' – a bottle of beer or some homemade muffins will be appreciated by your true assistants.
  • If you have a pet, make them feel comfortable during the move. They get stressed, too so you may even leave them with a person they know to look after them while you are packing. Give them treats and make them feel safe until it is time to move out.

These simple tips will make your move out hassle-free – act in advance and you will see that packing and moving out are not that challenging!
