How to refresh throw pillows on your own

Almost every housewife loves throw pillows. They are super soft, comfortable and ever warm. If you place some little cushions on your armchair and sofa, they will look much better. Actually throw pillows can breathe new life into the old sofa.
They are also handy when you decide to relax in front of the TV. Experts in interior design advise you to choose throw pillows of different sizes - diversity brings more colour in the decor. You will achieve not only a modern look, but you will also feel more comfortable when you use your furniture. When it comes to cushions, it's good also to match different prints and colours - no one has said that all the throw pillows should be in the same shade. On the contrary, if you choose colours that complement, you will achieve greater effect. The ideal number of throw pillows for the sofa is 4 or 5 (depending on the size of the sofa). If you plan to use cushions for the chair, then choose one larger or two smaller ones.

Cozy and welcoming atmosphere at home requires special cares and periodical changes. Therefore, if you are already used to your throw pillows and you want to make them a little more interesting and attractive, follow our DIY ideas. Our suggestions are super easy to perform and you will create your own unique cushions. Be sure, that they will never stay unnoticed by your guests! Now, read carefully:

  • Refresh your throw pillows by adding some funny buttons - use buttons of different colours and sizes to bring some pattern or picture on the cover of the throw pillow. For example, tree, flower or sun. The good thing is that this method does not even require special tailoring skills, so that it is accessible to everyone.
  • Refresh your throw pillows with felt - use some felt to cut out various shapes according to the seasonal theme or style you have chosen for your home. For example, butterflies, fish, snowflakes. Use an appropriate needle to attach them to the cover of the throw pillow. By the way, in case you live on rent and the proprietor of the cushions is your landlord, you need to inform him/her for your intentions to refresh the pillows. Otherwise, even after super efficient end of rental procedure, you may have some problems with the lessor in case of moving out. If your landlord is open-minded and agrees with your plans, you will already have a carte blanche to continue with your ideas.
  • Refresh your throw pillows with elegant piece of lace - in order to create a romantic and vintage atmosphere, use some lace crochet. Just take the ready lace crochet and sew it on throw pillows - it is recommended for the pillow to be in softer colours (pink, lilac, peach) to fit together with feminine touches of lace.
  • Refresh your throw pillows with a scarf - choose an old, coloured scarf, which can pack throw pillows as a gift with ribbon. The idea is wonderful for the upcoming Easter holidays, but if you use a scarf from a thinner fabric and with spectacular colours, you can try such decor during the rest of the year too.
  • Refresh your throw pillows with a print - thanks to textile dyes and pre-cut template, you can easily make a beautiful throw pillow with print on top. Type one word on each pillow, so that they are united all together by a common idea. You may also stamp a favorite phrase that motivates you or calms you. Аs opposed to the other DIY ideas for refreshment of old cushions, this one may require to deeply clean your home afterwards. So, be very careful when you work with textile dyes. Some persistent stains may spoil your mood and fail the adorable DIY project in the middle.
  • Refresh your throw pillows with an old sweater - find a new use for your old sweaters before you hurry up to dispose of your old-fashioned wardrobe. Use them to make original throw pillows. Instead of sewing the new pillowcase, you can use zip fastening, buttons or satin ribbons. Browse some nice pictures in the web and choose the option you like most. Have you ever supposed that you will find such a marvellous, new application of your favourite, but old-fashioned sweater?

See? You can always bring some new and fresh touches to your home decor, it all depends on your motivation and good will. By using cheap materials at hand (everybody has old sweaters, a piece of lace crochet or colourful buttons), you may achieve wonderful final results. Just unleash your imagination or follow our smart suggestions. You may even involve your kids into this amazing and super simple DIY project. Perhaps, they will be glad to participate in this fun initiative.
